Flash Review: The Master

Fantastic performances, exquisite cinematography and beautiful music (both score and soundtrack), all inside one dull, pointless movie. Some might argue that I just didn’t “get” it, but I’d say I didn’t even care enough to start interpreting it. For director Paul Thomas Anderson, a considerable step down from the masterpiece that was There Will be Blood.

Great minds think alike…we both felt about the same for this film. Glad I’m not alone.
Definitely! And I think many will agree with us.
This film has really split audiences and I’m one of the movie’s most ardent fans. I thought it was a fantastic character analysis and I think it’s one of the best films I’ve seen. Anderson is one of the strongest directors working today. Nice review.
Thanks. It’s definitely one of the most divisive and while I didn’t like it, there are many fans like you who support it. Can’t deny PTA’s talents, either. He’s fantastic.
He really is. I think he, the Coen brothers, and Michael Haneke are the best directors working today.
Could you check out my review? I wrote it back in September.

Very talented men right there. And sure, I’ll read it as soon as I have a little free time (later tonight). Thanks for sharing!
Not a lot of people like this, which I can totally see why, but you have to give some credit to Anderson for making a story that’s always compelling and always interesting in where it goes. Definitely not his best, but definitely most ambitious. Nice review.
Thanks! And yeah, definitely agree with ambitious. I didn’t find it as compelling as some of his other films, though. I never truly cared for the outcome.
Oh, and thanks a lot for following!
Another negative review and yet I still feel as if I need to see this! People seem to either love it or hate it and I want to be able to make my own mind up.
Yes! That’s exactly why I was so curious about this one. Have to say, I was disappointed with the film and a bit with myself because I really wanted to love it.
You “get it”.
Hehe
Yay more negativity for the film. I won’t be the only one once I finally come around to seeing this bad boy (I just know I won’t love it).
I had a feeling I wouldn’t like it but at the same time I wanted to love it.
Sorry to hear this didn’t work for you Fernando. I absolutely loved it. It was on a par with There Will Be Blood for me and quite simply a near masterpiece in my eyes.
It didn’t really work for me but I’m glad it did for you, Mark. I’ll wait for your review.
100% agree. Really disappointed in PTA’s story structure.
Thanks, Keith. This one didn’t grab me like TWBB did.
I thought the story here was a huge mess – PTA should stick to directing because neither of the ideas touched upon in this one was explored in sufficient manner.
Definitely agree, Sati. And he never gave us enough reason to care, either.
I couldn’t agree with that first line more…it was a very boring movie which didn’t pay off in the end.
Thanks, Nostra. You’re right about that. No payoff at the end.
Yep, I agree with all you said.
Thanks, Steve! I remember you didn’t like this one very much.
Good review Fernando. I may as well see this myself. If I get bored then so be it.

You will probably get bored but it’s worth watching for the cast and the visuals.
Thank you for being the voice of reason. This was such a tedious chore to sit through. I am still one of Paul Thomas Anderson’s biggest fans.
Lol, thanks Mark! And yes, I’m willing to forgive PTA for this one. After all, he’s responsible for TWBB, one of my absolute favorites!
